Critical Race Theory for the New Millennium

Referent: Prof. Robert St. Martin Westley, Ph.D. | Moderation: Dr. Martin Heidebach (LMU)

18.09.2019 um 16:00 Uhr

Critical Race Theory seeks to carry the intellectual mantle and social justice agenda of the American Civil Rights Movement. From its beginnings in the 1980s, Critical Race Theory sought to counter political narratives that proclaimed the Civil Rights Movement to have been completely victorious and no longer in need of further struggle, and legal narratives that proclaimed the end of racism through the application of colorblind jurisprudence. The challenge of Critical Race Theory in the new millennium is to remain true to its foundations while finding new methods to respond to the adaptive strategies of racial subordination.

Robert St. Martin Westley ist LOCHEF Professor of Legal Ethics & Professional Responsibility at Tulane University Law School in New Orleans und derzeit Visiting Fellow am CAS.
