Investigating Nuclear Pores and Liquid Droplets via Super-Resolution Microscopy
Siegfried Musser seeks to understand the principles and mechanisms whereby proteins partition into membrane-bound and membrane-less compartments. His talk focuses on cargo traffic through the nuclear pore permeability barrier and phase transitions within in vitro condensates of the fused in sarcoma (FUS) protein. Both of these systems of intrinsically disordered proteins are highly dynamic, requiring fast (millisecond) imaging to accurately capture various aspects of particle behavior, which inform about local structural and environmental properties. Current work involves the development and application of polarization PALM (p-PALM) and simultaneous multi-color 3D Imaging.
