Fitness in a Microbe: How the Circadian Clock is Shaped by the Environment

Referent: Prof. Kwangwon Lee, Ph.D. | Moderation: Prof. Martha Merrow, Ph.D. (LMU)

23.10.2018 um 12:00 Uhr

The circadian clock controls daily activities at the cellular and organismic level allowing an organism to anticipate incoming stresses and to utilize resources. The 24-hour circadian clock has been attributed as a fitness trait in multiple organisms. However, the mechanism of how circadian clock variation influences organismal reproductive fitness is still not well understood. Kwangwon Lee demonstrates in his talk a mechanism by which local adaptation involving circadian clock regulation influences reproductive fitness on the example of the mould fungus Neurospora discrete.

Kwangwon Lee ist Professor für Biologie an der Rutgers University und derzeit Visiting Fellow am CAS.
