Sickness and Sedentism: An Ecological Approach to Disease Transmission

Referentin: Dr. Kirsten Bos | Moderation: Prof. Dr. Philipp W. Stockhammer (LMU)

16.01.2019 um 16:15 Uhr

Infectious diseases have been constant companions to us throughout our history. The factors that influence which diseases enter and are maintained in human groups, however, are a function of both environmental conditions and cultural practices. The Neolithic transition and associated changes related to the adoption of sedentary lifestyles are thought to have precipitated an unprecedented shift in infectious disease exposure and the overall landscape of common ailments. Kirsten Bos will explore disease emergence and maintenance within human groups during this transformative period when the first longterm settlements appear.

Kirsten Bos leitet die Forschungsgruppe Molekulare Paläopathologie am Max-Planck-Institut für Menschheitsgeschichte in Jena.
