European Banking Regulation

Internationale Tagung unter Leitung von Prof. Dr. Horst Eidenmüller (LMU).

03.07.2014 – 04.07.2014

The field of banking regulation has recently seen an unprecedented wave of regulatory reform worldwide. In Europe, the focus is on the creation of a Eurozone Banking Union which consists of three major components: a single bank supervisory mechanism, a common bank crisis management and resolution system, and a uniform system of deposit insurance. This regulatory tsunami raises a number of questions: Why do banks need special regulation besides their importance for the financial system? How effective will the European single bank super visory mechanism be? Does the common bank crisis management and resolution system successfully tackle the moral hazard problem of running a bank that is "too big to fail"? At this conference, these questions will be addressed from a legal and economic perspective, with participants from a range of jurisdictions.

Teilnehmer sind u.a.: John Armour (Oxford), Paul Davies (Oxford), Alexander Kern (Zürich), Jennifer Payne (Oxford), Wolf-Georg Ringe (Kopenhagen), Steven L. Schwarcz (Duke).
