Metamorphosing Xenopus: A Model System for Studying the Functional Dynamics of Interacting Neural Circuits During Development

Referent: Prof. John Simmers, Ph.D. | Moderation: Prof. Dr. Hans Straka (LMU)

21.11.2017 um 18:30 Uhr

Frog metamorphosis constitutes one of the most dramatic developmental transformations in biology, involving the transition from a fish-like tadpole to a quadrupedal adult. The recent research of John Simmers has explored the developmental plasticity of spinal locomotor networks as the animal switches from larval tail-based swimming to adult limb-based propulsion. He will also speak about the adaptive neural processes that enable the animal to maintain visual acuity throughout metamorphosis as one locomotor system emerges and replaces the other.

John Simmers ist Professor für Neurobiologie an der Université Bordeaux und derzeit Visiting Fellow am CAS.
