Vortrag von Prof. Terry Marsden – Exploring the Potential Contributions of the Bio-Economy and the Eco-Economy in Agri-Food and Rural Regional Development

Diskussionsleitung: Prof. Dr. Bernhard Gill

18.11.2010 um 18:15 Uhr

Ecological modernisation is now a major driver of economic competition and regional and rural development. There are, however, significant differences in the ways this process is operating across both space and time. Terry Marsden will delineate two contested paradigms - the bio-economy and the eco-economy - and trace their conceptual origins and scientific trajectories. These competing paradigms are creating different regional and rural expressions which raise a range of questions about how development processes will unfold with regard to agri-food systems both globally and more specifically in Europe. They thus provide a rich theoretical and conceptual basis for new understandings of spatial development and regional innovation more generally, suggesting a more sophisticated 'place-based' approach to sustainable development.

Terry Marsden ist Professor für Umweltpolitik und -planung an der Universität von Cardiff.
