Energy Limits and Life in the Subsurface Sediments and Permafrost
Speakers: Prof. James Bradley, Ph.D., Margaret Cramm | Chair: Prof. William Orsi, Ph.D.

All organisms need energy at some rate (i.e. power) to survive and function. Subsurface life operates much slower than surface life, using much less power. James Bradley and his group are exploring the power utilization and survival of microorganisms in global marine sediments and permafrost, to understand the limits of life and the response of microbial communities to global change.
James Bradley is Professor of Environmental Science at the Queen Mary University of London and is currently working with Margaret Cramm, a fellow at the CAS.
