Prof. Jeffrey D. Schall, Ph.D.

Ehemaliger Visiting Fellow

York University

Biologie

Jeffrey Schall is Professor of Biology at York University and founding scientific director of the York Visual Neurophysiology Centre. He joined York University in 2021 from Vanderbilt University, where he was a professor in the Department of Psychology and the E. Bronson Ingram Professor of Neuroscience. He earned his Ph.D. in anatomy at the University of Utah School of Medicine (1986) and subsequently completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at MIT.

Schall’s laboratory investigates the neural structures and mechanisms enabling visual decision making. This includes visual search, response control, and performance monitoring. With Geoff Woodman he has connected invasive neurophysiological measures with noninvasive EEG measures like the N2pc, the CDA, and the error-related negativity. With Gordon Logan and Tom Palmeri he has sought to relate the invasive neurophysiological measures that produce performance in terms of cognitive mathematical models that explain performance.

He is a Visiting Fellow in July 2022 in the context of the CAS Research Group „Handling Visual Distraction" led by Prof. Dr. Hermann Müller.
