German musicology

Ursula Kramer is a German musicologist. She has taught at the University of Mainz since 2001, and has been a professor since 2007.

Ursula Kramer studied musicology, German, English and Romance studies, and school music in Mainz from 1980 to 1987. Until 1986 she was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation. In 1987 she passed the First State Examination in School Music and earned a Magister Artium in Musicology. In addition, she studied bassoon. In 1992, she was awarded a doctorate with the thesis “Richtiges Licht und gehörige Perspektive”. Studies on the Function of the Orchestra in 19th Century Opera in Musicology. From 1991 to 1995 she worked at the Staatstheater Mainz as music dramaturge and from 1992 to 1995 as orchestra manager and personal assistant to the general music director Peter Erckens (1953-2001). From 1995 to 2001 Kramer was a university assistant and completed her habilitation in 2001.

Ursula Kramer is a Visiting Fellow at CAS in April 2023 at the invitation of Prof. Dr. David Roesner. She will join the CAS Research Group on "The Sound of Theatre".
