Near East Archaeology

Mark Altaweel is Reader in Near East Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology of the University College London. His research focuses are agent-based modelling, GIS and land use, complex adaptive systems and Computational Social Science as well as Mesopotamian history and archaeology.

Mark Altaweel is a Visiting Fellow in November 2018 upon invitation from Prof. Dr. Karen Radner in the context of the CAS Research Focus "Settlements between Diversity and Homogeneity".

On 7 November 2018 he will give a lecture on "Social Complexity, Water and Climate. New Geoarchaeological Results on the Rise and Evolution of Southern Mesopotamia" at the Historicum of the LMU. Furthermore, he will participate in the CAS-conference "Abandoned Settlements: Discontinuity and Identity" on 13 to 15 February 2019.
