Lena Bouman studied biology in Marburg and Tübingen, focusing on cell biology and genetics. She was a visiting research fellow for a year at the Institut Curie in Paris as well as at the Rockefeller University in New York. During her doctorate at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich (Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen (DZNE)), she worked on the molecular mechanisms of Parkinson's disease.
