Katja Sandkühler is a neuropsychologist and a PhD candidate in the Department of Neurology at LMU University Hospital in Munich. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master's degree in Psychology with a specialisation in Neuropsychology from the University of Bielefeld, Germany, with part of her studies completed at Ghent University in Belgium.
Her doctoral research is dedicated to exploring the cognitive development, particularly executive functions, throughout the lifespan of individuals with Down Syndrome. This work includes developing neuropsychological instruments specifically designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities. She is also engaged in research focusing on dementia in people with Down Syndrome. Her long-term objective is to better understand the time course of cognitive changes during the earlier stages of Alzheimer’s disease in this population and to identify suitable diagnostic tools to detect them.
