Prof. Jason Hassenstab, Ph.D.

Jason Hassenstab is Professor of Neurology and of Psychological and Brain Sciences and the director of the Cognitive Technology Research Laboratory (CTRLab) at Washington University in St. Louis.

In addition, he also leads the Cognition Cores for the Dominantly-Inherited Alzheimer Network-Trials Unit (DIAN-TU) and the DIAN observational study, as well as the Charles F. and Joanne Knight Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. He is also the Principal Investigator of the ARC-DS study, an international multisite study of Down syndrome-associated Alzheimer disease with performance sites in EU, UK, South America, and the United States.

Jason Hassenstab's research areas include neuropsychiatry, frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) and sleep research. He is also interested in developing novel digital approaches for studying normal ageing. His research focuses on the development of cognition as well as biomarker studies for faster and improved diagnosis of aging and Alzheimer’s disease. The CTRLab develops digital applications (usually smartphones) to capture cognition, behaviour, sleep and physical activity using ecological measurement and experience sampling in normal and clinical populations. They also design web-based cognition assessments to detect earliest stages of neurodegenerative disease.

He received his PhD in psychology under the supervision of Antonio Convit at New York University and Fordham University. He then completed a fellowship at Brown University and has been a lecturer at Washington University in St. Louis since 2010.

He is a Visiting Fellow at CAS at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Nikolaos Koutsouleris (Medicine, LMU) and Prof. Dr. Johannes Levin (Medicine, LMU) in the context of the CAS Research Group Tools for Transnational Neuropsychiatric Research.
