Iwan Michelangelo D'Aprile received his Ph.D. From the TU Berlin with a thesis on the topic of "Ästhetische Moderne in Berlin". In 2009, he was appointed Junior Professor of European Enlightenment at the University of Potsdam.

His research sojourn at the CAS is intended firstly to serve the cooperation between himself and the staff of the LMU Excellence Project on "The Science of Politics" around 1800 (led by Prof. Dr. Eckhart Hellmuth, Department of History of the LMU), and secondly to provide him with the opportunity to utilize inventory of the Bavarian State Library relevant to his project.

The historian Iwan Michelangelo D’Aprile from the University of Potsdam will be in Munich at the beginning of April and again from August until mid October 2010. In his project "Political Journal Authors around 1800", he is conducting research into the networks of political publishers now mostly forgotten, but in their lifetimes very influential, such as Friedrich Buchholz and Heinrich Zschokke. D'Aprile sees these authors as a new type of writer situated somewhere between journalism and literature. Beginning with a broad understanding of the idea of political publishing, these publicists, in their literary practice, combined the forms and subject matter of the trivial and popular literature of their time with critical references to events and debates of everyday politics.
