Charles Dinarello is Professor of Medicine and Immunology at the School of Medicine of the University of Colorado in Denver.

Charles Dinarello is considered to be the founder of cytokine biology. In the mid 1980s, he was the first to isolate and characterize the immunological signal protein Interleukin-1 (IL-1). He thus laid the foundation for the understanding of inflammatory processes of numerous afflictions such as infections, injuries and cancer. Dinarello has published more than 850 articles, including 250 reviews and book chapters on cytokine. He has received several prizes for his work, including the Crafoord Prize of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Paul-Ehrlich-und-Ludwig-Darmstaedter-Preis.

Charles Dinarello will be at the CAS as a visiting fellow in November 2012 on invitation from Prof. Dr. Stefan Endres. He will hold several seminars during his time here in Munich. On 28 October 2012, he will give a lecture at the CAS entitled "The Search for the Endogenous Fever Molecule and the Discovery of Interleukin-1".
