Bill Bell is Professor of Bibliography at the School of English, Communication and Philosophy of the Cardiff University, and was previously founding Director of the Centre for the History of the Book at Edinburgh University.

He specializes in 19th-century literature and culture, and has written extensively on the history of the book and theories of cultural production.

Bill Bell is a Visiting Fellow at CAS in June and July 2016 upon invitation from Prof. Dr. Christine Haug (Senior Researcher in Residence 2015/16). He will participate in the international workshop "Zur Sozialen Energie einer Europäischen Obsession: Erotisch-Pornographische Lesestoffe 1750–1850" held at CAS from 27 to 29 June 2016.

In the winter semester 2021/22 he is again Visiting Fellow at CAS.
