Prof. Dr. Bernhard Landwehrmeyer

Georg Bernhard Landwehrmeyer is Professor of Neurology at the University of Ulm.

His main interests are neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington's disease, Parkinson's-like diseases (including progressive supranuclear palsy and multiple system atrophy), frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Other topics on which he has published include imaging in neurology and pain. The vast majority of Landwehrmeyer's publications are devoted to various aspects of Huntington's disease neurobiology, including its genetics as well as genetic modifiers. He is one of the organisers of the first large (>500 participants), long-term multicentre European phase III Huntington's disease trial in 2000, a collaboration that led to the establishment of the European Huntington's Disease Network (EHDN) in 2004, of which he was chairman until 2014. He is also the leader of the worldwide prospective cohort study "Enroll-HD" with over 21 000 participants, which provides important insights into the natural history of Huntington's disease.

He is a Visiting Fellow at CAS at the invitation of Prof. Dr. Nikolaos Koutsouleris (Medicine, LMU) and Prof. Dr. Johannes Levin (Medicine, LMU) in the context of the CAS Research Group Tools for Transnational Neuropsychiatric Research.
