Norms of Reasoning
The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers to discuss the normative role of logic in our cognitive economy. Logic, we tell our students, is concerned with correct inference and valid argument. But can it really be said to guide our processes of belief formation and revision? Or does it have an evaluative role to play in our appraisals of the epistemic conduct of ourselves and others? Wherein exactly does its normative and/or evaluative role consist? What is its relation to other epistemic norms and requirements of theoretical and practical ra tion ality? And how does it relate to Bayesian approaches to rationality?
Teilnehmer sind u.a.: Laura Celani (St. Andrews), David Christensen (Brown), Rosanna Keefe (Sheffield), Gila Sher (UC San Diego), Robert Williams (Leeds).
