Truth and Meaning in Buddhism

Internationaler Workshop unter Leitung von Dr. Paulus Kaufmann (CAS Junior Researcher in Residence).

12.09.2016 – 13.09.2016

All Buddhists may be said to rely on the truths of the Buddha. They differ, however, not only with regard to the content and interpretation of these truths, but also with regard to the question what truth is. It is controversial among Buddhist thinkers if truth can be expressed by language and how truth is related to meaning. This workshop brings together experts from different fields of Buddhist Studies in order to gain a better picture of the various conceptions of truth and meaning in Buddhism. It will also compare Buddhist notions with conceptions from other Asian and European traditions and try to bring commonalities and differences to the fore.

Teilnehmer sind u.a.: Gil Ben-Herut (University of Southern Florida), Joachim Gentz (Edinburgh), Fujii Jun (Komazawa University), Jörg Plassen (Bochum), Moro Shigeki (Hanazono University), Jan Westerhoff (Oxford).
