Renaissance Immobility

Internationale Tagung unter Leitung von Dr. Galena Hashhozheva (LMU).

02.05.2013 – 04.05.2013

Continuing scholarly excitement about geographical and social mobility in English Renaissance literature and culture now compels us to study also the complementary and opposite phenomenon: immobility. The goal is to reveal the existential and ideological stakes of static, settled, and sedentary modes of being, and to explain how they were chosen and defended, or else criticized, in the political, economic, literary, and other spheres. Papers will range over the century between the Elizabethan Settlement of 1559 and the Restoration in the 1660s, two moments that epitomize political visions of stability.

Teilnehmer sind u.a.: Andrew Hadfield (Sussex), Sarah Hutton (Aberystwyth), Garrett Sullivan, Jr. (Pennsylvania).
