Axel Bruns ist Associate Professor an der Creative Industries Faculty an der University of Queensland in Brisbane.
Als Experte auf dem Gebiet der Internetforschung richtet Professor Bruns sein Augenmerk im Besonderen auf neue Kommunikationsströme und auf Fragen der Meinungsbildung. International bekannt wurde Axel Bruns durch zahlreiche Publikationen wie Gatewatching: Collaborative Online News Production (2005), Blogs, Wikipedia, Second Life and Beyond (2008) und A Companion to New Media Dynamics (mit John Hartley und Jean Burgess, 2013).
Axel Bruns ist im April und Mai 2013 auf Einladung von Prof. Dr. Christoph Neuberger am CAS und hält am 23. April einen Vortrag über "Neue Öffentlichkeiten und Social-Media-Plattformen: Zur Nutzung von 'Big Data' in der Kommunikationsforschung".
